Ketamine assisted psychotherapy
An innovative treatment approach using the medication ketamine to facilitate psychotherapy. Ketamine is administered under medical supervision and can induce altered states of consciousness, promoting deep introspection and emotional exploration, providing a rich opportunity to deepen psychotherapy. This therapy has shown promising results in the treatment of various mental health conditions, such as depression, anxiety, and post-traumatic stress disorder (PTSD). Ketamine assisted psychotherapy offers a unique opportunity for profound healing and personal growth by supporting individuals in processing challenging emotions and experiences within a therapeutic context.

Medication often provides a foundation for engaging in other therapeutic modalities. I collaborate closely with my patients and their providers to find the most effective medication regimen and dosing, while minimizing and monitoring side-effects.
-
Trained as a psychodynamic psychotherapist, I integrate this classical approach with a person-centered approach— acknowledging that you are the expert on your own experience. I also bring in cognitive behavioral therapy and eastern philosophy, including mindfulness and meditation. Developing a trusting and collaborative relationship is key to my approach.
-
I welcome the inclusion of family members, while emphasizing the importance of a person’s autonomy. Trained in the Finnish Dialogic Practice model, I facilitate meetings between loved ones to include each person’s voice, defuse power dynamics, and move towards honest communication. In addition, I coach family members as they navigate their way through our complex mental health system and help them support their loved one in treatment.

This process may involve a thorough evaluation, including questions about past and current treatments. Based on this information, Dr. Chanoff can offer a second opinion, recommend treatment options, and help clarify whether current medications or therapies are effective. The consultation also allows you to ask questions and gain a deeper understanding of your mental health, creating a collaborative approach to treatment that may include medication, therapy, ketamine therapy, diet and lifestyle changes, or a combination of these strategies.
