Dr. Fabiola Jean Taylor

Dr. Fabiola Jean Taylor is a pediatric trauma specialist with clinical training in behavioral medicine, complex trauma, and forensic psychology. She currently serves as Assistant Professor in the Clinical Psy.D. program at the California School of Professional Psychology, Los Angeles. Dr. Jean Taylor teaches foundational pre-doctoral courses, such as Intercultural Processes & Human Diversity, Clinical Interviewing, Child/Adolescent Clinical Interventions, and Psychodiagnostic Assessment. She also serves as the Clinical Health Psychology Emphasis coordinator for both faculty and students, as well as the coordinator for all Intercultural Processes & Human Diversity courses. Dr. Jean Taylor’s area of expertise includes teaching the art and science of authentic being. Our lives as human beings are defined by rich complexity. As such, Dr. Jean Taylor has spent years teaching how to best honor the authentic self through traumatic and/or childhood wound healing.

Dr. Jean Taylor has attended numerous clinical rotations internationally, briefly studying Autism Spectrum Disorders in Cambridge, United Kingdom, and serving clinically as a behavioral health provider in Guayaquil, Ecuador and in the rural town of Thika, of central Kenya.  Dr. Jean Taylor has worked as a disease control and prevention educator internationally and her research contributions have focused on improvement of education quality and graduation outcomes in primary schools in the United States and internationally. Her research and program development contributions include the creation of the fully executed Black Mental Health Graduate Academy at William James College, aimed at recruiting, and retaining, Black graduate students. Dr. Jean Taylor’s clinical training background centers on Complex Pediatric Trauma, Behavioral Health, with an emphasis on Global Mental Health Perspectives, and Forensic Psychology, with a certification in Child & Family Forensics. Additional training areas include Trauma Informed Child-Parent Psychotherapy (TI-CPP) and Trauma Focused-Cognitive Behavioral Therapy (TF-CBT). 

Dr. Jean Taylor completed her postdoctoral fellowship training in the Suffolk County Juvenile Court system, conducting emergency and extended specialized assessments of children and families in the Greater Boston Metropolitan Area. She has taught as adjunct faculty at William James College, teaching Introduction to Behavioral Neuroscience and Mental Health Disparities: Multicultural & Global Perspectives. Dr. Jean Taylor has served as a leader and member on numerous professional committees and networks, and her contributions to the field have culminated in the development of various educational programs. Dr. Jean Taylor has held professional affiliations with, among others, the American Psychological Association and the Haitian Mental Health Network.  Additionally, Dr. Jean Taylor has been known to offer her services in support of Haitian communities, including cognitive testing consultation services for Haitian immigrant families served by the Brenner Center for Psychological Assessment. 

Dr. Jean Taylor’s professional interests include holistic healing, public health, complex childhood trauma, program development, and mentorship.  She is a trained yoga instructor and has completed training with the Benson-Henry Mind-Body Institute Stress Management and Resiliency Training Program. She uses this complimentary training background to incorporate numerous mind-body techniques in her clinical practice. Dr. Jean Taylor has also served as an auxiliary board member for the Big Sister Association of Greater Boston: Diversity Council, supporting underserved communities of young girls and women by working towards closing the racial gap in the mentor-mentee matching process. Dr. Jean Taylor has presented her research on numerous academic forums, including Boston College’s Institute for the Study and Promotion of Race and Culture, and continues to look forward to her role in support of the promotion of historically marginalized and underserved individuals through the lens of clinical psychology and behavioral health.
